This tutorial outlines how to check your website traffic in several different ways. This tutorial will walk you through step by step how to check your traffic with two different free online companies [compete.com] and [alexa.com] as well as how to check your traffic using our hosting platform here at Altec Design.
The two programs that we cover are two great free tools that are available to check the traffic your website is generating. They both work in very similar ways to give you a fairly accurate estimate of your traffic. They each have several million users who have installed their toolbar into their browser. Then judging by how many users with their toolbar go to your site they estimate the amount of traffic your site gets taking into account the fact that they only have a small percentage of internet users using their toolbar. The only downfall from a system like this is that a website with a more techy theme will almost always be represented better in these two systems because people who visit these sites are much more likely than the averageinternet user to have the two sites toolbars installed in their browsers considering that unless you are a savvy internet user you will probably not know about either of these companies toolbars [case in point do you have the toolbar installed...]
Secondly this tutorial will walk you through how to login to your customer account and check detailed reports of your websites traffic including exactly how many hits your website is getting, where your traffic is coming from, what keywords people are using to find your site in search engines, how long they are staying on your website… and a whole lot more.
As always if you have any questions about any part of this tutorial feel free to drop us a note in the comments section below and someone from our team will get back to you.
