Finding A Sites Whois information

For those of you who are not familiar with the Whois database I will give you a brief explanation. The Whois database is a collection of data about any given website and can be found by searching many different sites (unless the site you are searching for uses private registration)

WWhat the Whois database will allow you to do is see the contact information for a particular domain name, when the domain name was registered, and when the domain name expires. All of this information seems innocent enough but it can actually be quite useful, especially when purchasing products online. For instance if you do a Whois search on a website you are thinking about making a purchase on and see that the site has only been around for a few weeks…. or that the site’s domain name expires in a few months this can give you a really good idea if the company is legitimate or not (in other words, if you do a Whois search on a company and you get weird results, don’t buy something from them, there are plenty of legit companies online to buy from, and yes the previously mentioned scenarios of a site only being live for a few weeks or expiring soon should raise you suspecion about the sites validity)
